Feeling Confident with Penny Chic!

The following was purchased with personal funds.

Most of the time, I hate myself.

But don’t feel weird about that- you probably do, too.

Yeah, there are pros to being me, but there’s always that part that highlights the cons. Sometimes those cons win, at least inside my mind. I’m not a very confident person about the usual small stuff people get hung up on- my hair sucks, I’m overweight, my nose is so shiny, my clothes are wonky. But it’s small stuff, super small stuff. A couple of weeks ago, I got tired of my negative attitude and decided to have the first Feel Good About Yourself day. No complaining. Wear something nice. Smile.

Did it work? Yeah, it actually did.

I wore makeup. I did my hair. I wore a nice dress. And I had a haircut later that day. I had a good time.

A few weeks later, I wore another dress that got a lot of compliments. It’s just simpler and classier than what I usually wear. And it had pockets.

I chose to wear these dresses because they made me feel good about myself. I have no regrets saying these dresses are from Wal-Mart by Penny Chic. The first dress I wore is called the Curvy, the second is the Utility. All dresses in all sizes are $20.00 each. Last year, a co-worker turned me on to a new blogger, Shauna Miller of Penny Chic, a blog about affordable fashion. I’m all about affordable. A year later, and much success, Shauna now has a LBD dress collection available at walmart.com, in women’s regular and plus sizes. The dresses are nice, especially for anyone who wants a little black dress. I actually purchased almost every style, and kept the two dresses that worked best for me. I think everyone could find a dress that would suit them. I don’t often wear black (I have two cats), so I’d appreciate a collection with more color or patterns.

Chillin’

It’s been a looooong time since I have regularly posted an OOTD. Here’s what I wore yesterday.

The Professional

I’d like to say I love my job. Especially since I have the freedom to wear whatever I want!!! (Within reason, of course!) That is actually a major yay for me- almost every job I’ve held before required a uniform, and I love choosing my clothes and being allowed to wear funky colors on my hair, eyes, and nails. I am quite lucky in this aspect, but really, I lack a professional touch. I’m never one to be classy looking. Meh. :/

But I tried! Last week, I do-presented a slides how at work, something I have never some before. In honor of the occasion, I decided to dress up. I purchased this dress from Sears (I am the only one who buys anything from Sears!) last month, and totally had nothing to wear it to. It’s a dark green dress from the line Studio 1. I got a super good deal on it, and I was surprised it look good on.

I felt good! :)

Winter White

Happy holidays! Just less than one more week to go and then it’ll all be back to normal in 2013 (one can hope). I traveled to DC for Christmas to visit my mother and my brother. Lots of walking in the cold!

Holiday Party!

A few weeks ago, a couple of my friends and I went to a work party. We dressed up and had a lot of fun! I am not one to shy away from dancing in public. I’ve never been to a work holiday party before! Got ready right after work that day.

Eh Sexy Lady!

I hate love that Gangnam Style song. But I thought it’d be an appropriate title!

I don’t wear sexy clothing. But sometimes I can try some on. I tried on this Forever 21… clubbing jumper? And I liked it? Lol. Looks better on the model, but I like it on me, too.

Target x Neiman Marcus Holiday24

I remember when Target announced their holiday collab partnership with Neiman Marcus, and this was eons ago, back during the summer. I was excited, but December seemed so far away! But here we are! December already! For many, and do not laugh, the months leading up to any Target designer collection can be exhilarating. Some people take these events a little too seriously, but for a good reason. Target capsule collections are a great way for the American every-person to access affordable design. Greed can ruin that experience, and many pieces are often shoveled into carts by the armloads to show up later on eBay with unbelievable markup. I do not buy name brand a lot, but I will buy anything that I actually like. Target affords me the ability to buy something I like that came from great inspiration.

Holiday24 debuted today in both Target and Neiman Marcus stores, and online. What I had wanted online was sold out, so I went to the stores. The first Target I went to had no setup that I could find, so I visited the Neiman Marcus nearby. I love visiting NM. It’s a beautiful high-end store, and even if the collection is not “OMG, I need everything!” amazing, just visiting the items on display in the store made it special. You go to NM not only for the goods, but for the experience, and you just feel luxe. Holiday24 will not appeal to everyone. I think it’s nice for a seasonal collection, but the prices could have been better. However, you know what you’d pay for real designer products, you just feel it should be extremely affordable because it is Target.

This randomly makes me hope there is a designer perfume collection with Target in the future.

I only wanted two things: an Oscar de la Renta tote ($60) and a Skaist – Taylor faux fur kids hat ($40). The jury is still out on the bag, but I loooooove that hat! That hat actually was worth the $40. ;)
