Bun bun!

Sock buns with NiftyBa! I just did this- you can too!

I’m not sure if you remember what I look like with long hair. Every three or four years, I grow out my hair and cut it short. I do a lot to my hair sometimes, but when I got married, it was just long and au natural. At the very beginning of my blog, I had long hair, and I spent some serious time rocking out the side braids and Heidi crowns. And of course, right when I cut it off, those become trends again. Dang it.

This is from February 2011.

So, I’ve been missing out on all the cool long hair styles people have been rocking for the last year. I was super jelly! I can only do tiny braids now! I stick to curling my hair for special occasions. I do love to experiment, though, and today since I had bed head, I decided to attempt a sock bun. Oooooo, mathematical! I keep seeing these weird sock bun things sold in stores, but I know you can just make it out of an old sock. Sorry, husband, I used a sock with a hole in it, along with this tutorial from Hello Framboise. Hilarity ensued, but it all worked out swell in the end. :)

Set on Shorts

If you know me, or even if you spend just ten minutes looking through my posts, you know I’m not much of a pants and shorts kind of person. Buying dresses is so much easier for me than buying bottoms, and that’s why I own so many dresses. As a size 12/14 and a person with a super short inseam, finding cute jeans is not my favorite shopping experience. Have you ever tried the largest size in the store and have the item not fit? Like, you can’t even fit it over your thigh, or zip it up?That’s a horrible, self-esteem deflating feeling. Imagine me doing that every time I try something at Zara or H&M. *ugh*

And don’t even get me started on shorts. Cellulite and thunder thighs… Well, of course a person who only highlights the negative of their legs may not own a lot of shorts. I used to take my jeans and just cut them up most of the time to make shorts. It’s hard to find shorts that feel comfortable. More often than not, they’re too tight, they ride up, the inseam is impossible short. My hips simply cannot fit into the cute stuff. I just never liked shorts much, because I didn’t feel attractive in them.

That is, until I found the One.

Meet my new holy grail shorts, the Classic Cuffed Denim Shorts from Forever 21.

This past year, I have become an intense Forever 21 shopper. I didn’t shop at F21 when I was younger, and I still don’t like the stores, but I love browsing online. They have a large selection that I think works for many different people and looks, and I have been using the site to find affordable basics. I rely on given measurements and online reviews when purchasing, and Forever 21 will let you return most items for store credit. I have tried many many pairs of jeans from F21, both normal and plus size, to mixed results. These shorts were the second pair I ever purchased from the store… And I ended up stocking up on multiple pairs and donated all of my other sucky shorts. Now I am set for life.

Why did I stock up? The fit is amazingly comfortable for me. I wear a size 31 in them, and it’s perfect. If you know Forever 21, you know that many of their bottoms are not plus size friendly. Well, these are a miracle and I will never let them go. I have been wearing them non-stop on my days off from work. It has helped me use up my extensive t-shirt collection. I find them durable and high quality, which is surprising, and I love the different denim colors available. The shorts are being phased out right now and were on sale, so on a recent order, I got 4 pairs. For something that I truly actually like, it was a very small investment. Even when not on sale, the regular price of $12.50 was a steal.

While I still continue my quest for the most awesome size 12 inseam 26 jeans out there… I won’t shop for shorts any time soon. I think I’m set for life.

In this picture, I’m wearing the shorts, a favorite F21 top, and my high heels.
