Plato’s Closet: All You Can Bag Haul

A few weeks ago, a co-worker and friend who just knows I love a good sale let me know that Plato’s Closet would soon be having a $20 bag sale, and I was all, like, Yay. I had done it once before, one autumn a few years ago, and I stocked up on a ton of skirts and sweaters. I have missed the sale since, and finally I was off work to go to one! I was excited!

But then I got sick.

But an insane part of me didn’t care, crawled out of bed and put shorts on, and went anyways. It was so hard. I’m an intense shopper, but being in a fast paced, crowded room while being delirious and coughing is not something I’m going to repeat in the future. I ended up sitting in my car for a good half hour enjoying the air conditioning in a nearby parking lot afterwards.

I made sure to take a picture of my total before the discount was factored in. Plato’s Closet prices are high!

For the sale price of $20 plus tax, what did I get? 14 items total: 2 shirts, 1 skirt, and 11 dresses. I didn’t do as good as I could have, but I was there an hour, took an honest look through what I chose, and got some great pieces. Not only did I pick up some clothes I would normally wear, but I was able to splurge on some styles I don’t try. I did not try anything on at the store, but I knew how to eyeball my general size, and I always stay away from anything that may fit too tight on my bottom half.

This was a special find because the same friend that told me about the sale owns this same old old Target dress that was rereleased last year, and I’ve always wanted it.

Some of the items were even brand new.

Trying on a dress. Luckily everything fit.

My most expensive item was probably the BCBG dress, at over $2.00. The least expensive was a tank at .62.

Savings of $173.00. I can do that.

When I buy clothing, it’s almost always previously owned. Thrift stores are not cheap, and my pieces average about $4 a piece normally, with it being much cheaper if I’m at a place like the Goodwill Outlet. Cheap, but not dirt cheap. Bag sales at places like Plato’s Closet are great because it’s a place that only takes brand names to begin with, and if you’re in the market for pieces from stores you cannot afford on a regular basis, even on a non-sale day, there are some great scores. Some of it has never even been worn! The store is not even just for juniors- I think it’s my new favorite consignment place to find J. Crew or high-end designers.

    • Next time I’ll make a big announcement! It’s twice a year, I think, at the changing of the seasons. All locations usually participate nationwide at different times, but I know 3 specifically in the Orlando area had it on the same day: Waterford Lakes, East Colonial, and another one. :)

  1. The bunny dress. OMG the bunny dress. I died. I love it. Great haul Ali. I am surprised you did it with how sick you have been but I see it was worth it!

  2. Oh! Also. I love everything in the first shot. The sheep is so freaking cute. I love the little bird print. I also spied the jellies we had when I came over once and the print you got at Maker Faire.
