A niftyBA! first featuring Reviva Labs!

Giveaway closed! Thank you so much for entering, and congratulations to our winner, Julie.

One piece of advice my mother gave me after I had the baby was, “Don’t let yourself go.”

… Eh…

I’ve got many other things on my mind these days, makeup being at the very bottom of my list, but she is right. I suppose it does me well to actually keep looking like a nice human being (instead of some sleep-deprived new mom). It’s not like I’m going to put a full face on before a whole day of sitting with the baby, but I should take care of my skin!

Good thing skin care company Reviva Labs provides beauty lovers with a wide array of products to cleanse, prepare, and treat the blank canvas that is your body. I keep their makeup primer in my travel bag for under a light powder or BB cream. I love anything that helps my pores. Reviva Labs has been a supporter of the Beauty Bloggers of Central Florida since 2012, and we have partnered to offer a niftyBA! first: a giveaway!

Hare Polish in “Peepshow Magique”

I think my wife’s on to a great tradition: In 2012, I received my first Hare Polish bottles for Christmas, and then again this past Christmas, I received another collection. Such a great way to try out nail polishes I would not otherwise buy (they are so beautiful AND a bit pricey, I’d want to buy them all). At least this way, she always has an idea of what I would want as a gift. :)

F21 Sand Lacquer in “Purple/Gold”

During my pregnancy, and even after, I’ve relied on the texture trend to have a polished look in less time. I need my time for sleep/feeding babies! I love that there’s not so much drying time needed, and many newer shades have a great glitter throughout. This shade is very blandly labeled “purple/gold,” but for a few dollars, it’s anything but bland.

Back in the Saddle

Hello, world!

It has been the better part of a year since I have blogged on a regular basis. Sorry for falling off the edge of the earth, but I had stuff to do (and continued to have nail polish to buy!). For regular beauty and life updates, I do suggest following me on Twitter @nifty_ba or on Instagram @niftyba.

And for the biggest change in my life, follow me @hellothisisyourmum. For the last ten or so months, I’ve been MIA because I was getting ready for have a baby! And my beautiful baby boy is here now, so… my aversion to doing my nails and choosing sleep instead is gone. (For now! I swear, I only did my nails less than a dozen times in the last ten months. I looooved sleep.) It is a joyous reason to not have blogged, and I am so happy. :)

Get used to having be back, world. I’ve got twenty pounds to lose, and about 500 polishes left unswatched. Ha!

2013- blog stats!

It’s true: I have been MIA. There are good reasons, but I’ll get to that soon. In the meantime, the stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 18,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 7 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Cirque Polish Sale Haul

The following was purchased with personal funds.

Cirque was one of those nail polish brands that popped up in the last year of “indie craze.” I’ve always heard great things about the company and the colors, but could never justify a purchase of polish that I felt was $$. A few weeks ago, I found myself online at 3am and someone posted that Cirque was having a sale. Suddenly awake, I jumped on it! I received some beauties, and you can tell what sets Cirque apart- gorgeous shades in an elegant presentation.

These were not taken with top coat applied, and I feel they’d look 100x better of they were. The glitter in French Roast and Dark Horse would benefit from that, for example. To my surprise, the favorites were Curiosity and Cape Liz- not the usual glitter bombs I’m drawn to, but very nice nonetheless. My favorite glitter was Ophelia. The usual price for Cirque polishes is $13. Very pricey in my book, but a high end indie treat. Be on the lookout for coupons or codes!

Milani Shadow Eyez

The following was provided for review.

Everyone seemed to like these but me. Members of the Central Florida Beauty Bloggers received these Milani Shadow Eyez 12 Hr Wear Eyeshadow Pencils last year, and while I delved right into the nail polish, I was hesitant about these shadow pencils. I mean, have you ever met a shadow pencil hat you actually liked? The usual variety never sticks and quickly disappears from the lid. Well, this is not the early ’00s anymore, and these are not the shadow pencils you’ve been disappointed in before.

I left the Shadow Eyez unopened until I was getting ready for a day earlier this month that I knew was going to last forever- not only was I working a full shift, but right afterwards, I was going to a concert. I needed to be dressed to go, and I wanted some fun eyeshadow to match. I heard from my beauty pals that these pencil shadows stuck like glue. Would they suffice for the 12 hour day I had ahead?

Brown Deluxe, Royal Purple, Green Safari, and Champagne Toast.

I thought the colors I pulled matched my dress well.

If anything, it’s just so weird to apply these.

This is what it looked like at the end of the night. Not great, BUT not horrible. Obvious creasing, but most of it looked okay.

Would I use these again? I have! If not for 12 hours, at least for my work shifts, and they’re still good without a primer. My lids are oily, but I’m still surprised at the staying power of this product. Champagne Toast has been my go-to for a simple eye look. The only thing I don’t like is how I apply the product with my fingertips- my nails are long, so it’s kind of hard! Other than that, these shadow pencils from Milani are just as good as everyone has said they are, and I love the colors available.
